Travis & Matt Talk ‘Stereo Hearts’
Fresh off their recent performance at the AMAs, which was a highlight of the show, Gym Class Heroes popped by our office to talk about their latest offering, The Papercut Chronicles II, for our “See the Music” series. The band shed a little light on the addictively catchy “Stereo Hearts,” which features a vocal assist courtesy of Maroon 5′s Adam Levine. The song camps out in your cranium for days, thanks to the hook and the verse! You know when you hear “My hearts a stereo” on the radio, you crank it to top decibels and sing along until your throat is hoarse.
Singer Travie McCoy mused about the nature of the pop song in relation to “Stereo Hearts,” saying,”Being tossed into this realm of pop music, I think there is always a lot of focus on hooks, and screw the verses. For me, the verses are just as important or more important. The hook is what everyone remembers but I take as much pride in hooks as I do in verses.” He also spoke about the double entendre present in the song’s wordplay. Clearly, he sets out to write something substantial and with staying power, and he did just that with “Stereo Hearts.” Woah-oh-oh-oh-oh.
