When did all this happen?
I discovered Gym Class Heroes in 2007, when a friend of mine kept talking about the cute frontman of the band that sings Cupid’s Chokehold. I’d heard their music before, but I didn’t know muchanything about them, so after buying — and falling in love with — their album, I wanted to get to know the band. While searching for information, all I could find were blogs and small niche communities, but not one site — official site included — where I could find out what I wanted to know. After some thought, my friend decided to remedy the situation by creating her own Gym Class Heroes fansite. On December 17, 2007, Upstate Kids was born.
How’d you come up with that name?
We went through a lot of songs and lyrics. We wanted something that was representative of the group and that fans would recognize. We wanted something catchy, but nothing too literal like gchfans.com. The band makes no secret that they’re from Upstate, New York; in Shoot Down The Stars there’s the line –
“…and the kids are upstate kids that thought rap was past tense, hence the last name…”
We felt like Upstate Kids represented the band and the fans… and as ‘they” say, the rest is history.
Why Gym Class Heroes?
Why not Gym Class Heroes? I love the band! I admit that I wasn’t one of the first to discover them, but after hearing them for the first time, I immediately fell in love with the music, the lyrics, and their style. A lot of artist claim to be different, but I feel that Gym Class Heroes are one of the few bands that are actually doing something different. I appreciate that they create good music, put on great shows, and respect their fans.
Why don’t you update everyday?
Mostly because I’m lazy, but also because I am a person with other things to do and sometimes those things take precedence over this site. Sometimes there just isn’t anything new or worth mentioning. I do not like to post every MySpace bulletinTwitter/Facebook status or blog post just to have something new on the front page; I try to post frequently, but limit it to only relevant information. I try to keep the news as current as possible and make any changes to information when necessary. As I said I am not affiliated with the band, their management or label and my information is second hand.
Are you Gym Class Heroes?
Nope. We are not any of the members of Gym Class Heroes. We don’t know them, we’ve never met them [Edit: We have met the band and they know about this site and who we are, but we're still not aces, so...], we don’t have their AIM or email addresses, we don’t know where they live or where they hang out, we don’t have their phone numbers, we don’t know who their girlfriends or sexual partners are, and we don’t know Pete. Even if we did, we wouldn’t tell you. All we know is they make damn good music and you should go buy their whole collection.
So, who are you?
I’m Nicole, a music lover, a concert-goer, and most importantly, a GCH fan and supporter. I run my personal site here and can be found on tumblr and twitter. Note: I use “we” a lot on this site, because it recently became “me” when the original owner left and I’m sure there will be others working on the site with me. It’s called Upstate Kids for goodness sake. =P
