Setup in Three Easy Steps

Step 1 — Set Your Launch Page as your Homepage

Go to Settings > Reading.
Where it says, “Front page displays,” choose “A static page,” and select “Sign-Up” from the dropdown menu. When you refresh this page, it will disappear and your launch page will appear instead.

Step 2 — Set Permalinks

Go to Settings > Permalinks.
Select any options besides default. If your .htaccess file is not writable, instructions from WordPress will appear in a grey box below the “Save Changes” button for how you should set the rules manually.

Step 3 — Start Designing!

Go to Launch Effect > Designer.
Now for the fun part! The Designer is now divided into three sections: Global Styles, Sign-Up Page, and Theme (premium only). That submenu is located directly under the giant Designer/Integrations/Stats tabs. The best way to get started here is to just start playing around and gaining an understanding of what selections affect which parts of the design. Good luck!

I got my first name (Disashi) from my grandfather and my last name (Lumumba-Kasongo) from my dad, who are both from The Congo. My middle name, Koffi, comes from my mother’s side (The Ivory Coast). And yes, all of my family members have rad names: Tukumbi (father), N’dri (mother), Enongo (sister), Lushima (brother), and of course my son, Hero K.D. Lumumba-Kasongo!

You were probably in a band in High School as most musicians I know were… If you were, what was it called and what/who were your main influences?

In high school I was in a band called Earl’s Garage. Actually, we played a show or 2 with Gym Class Heroes in Syracuse, NY, and that’s how I met the dudes before I was recruited. I had a TON of influences including Green Day, Foo Fighters, Silverchair, Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead, Yngwie Malmsteen, Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World, The Get Up Kids, Midtown, Stevie Ray Vaughn, too many to name!

Congratulations with all the success that GCH has gotten, did you EVER think it would be this massive??

Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy and drummer Matt McGinley are from the same small town in Upstate New York. They both have last names that start with “Mc,” and, let’s face it, have logged more than a few hours together touring and recording the group’s top-selling albums, including their latest, The Papercut Chronicles II. (That’s the album that kicked off with the smash “Stereo Hearts”, which we premiered last June). That said, the two couldn’t be further apart when it comes to their personal preferences. Nowadays there’s no way to make a living in the music business without hitting the road. And yes, that’s true even for a chart-topping band like Gym Class Heroes. In the past few weeks alone, GCH finished their European tour, went straight to Indianapolis for Super Bowl week, and hit the road again for a U.S. tour—including selected dates with T-Pain. Obviously, these guys stay on the grind. Honestly, it might be a while before they get their “Ass Back Home.”

So we figured it would be cool to catch up with the crew as they criss-crossed the U.S. and they agreed to bless us with The Gym Class Heroes Tour Diary. We’re going to get a first-hand look at what really goes down when these guys aren’t on stage. Today’s entry features pictures and blurbs written by the band’s dummer and co-founderMatt McGinley. Stay tuned for more diary entries from each member of the band. OK, time to hit the road.
